West Wales Basketball - Olympic Torch Bearers
May 2012 saw the countdown to the London Olympics begin with a torch relay being run all around the UK; the torch bearers have been nominated by members of the public who feel that they have made significant contributions to their community or to charities.
Tropics Basketball is proud to announce that it’s own Jackie Davies successfully carried the torch through Cardigan on 27th May, landing the plum stage of running right through the centre of the town.  On a magnificent May day bathed in glorious sunshine, crowds turned out in force to witness this once in a lifetime event and Jackie did herself and her family proud, running her leg with a huge smile and clearly enjoyed every minute of her time in the spotlight.
Nominated for her work running Preseli Storm and developing basketball in Whitland, Jackie has spent over a decade devoting her time voluntarily to provide the opportunity for children to learn basketball; several of her players have gone on to been involved with the Welsh national squads.  Over the past 4 years, she has been a huge help to the Tropics, helping with the score table for practically every home game at both junior and senior level, and being one its keenest supporters.
Also worth a mention is that Lee Coulson of Aberystwyth Club was also nominated, for his 20 years of coaching; by strange coincidence, he also ran the main leg through Aberystwyth town centre.  This has been tremendous recognition to both Jackie and Lee for the many hours they have given to our sport and we congratulate them both.
