West Wales Basketball Club receives Grant Funding to develop their juniors

A Carmarthenshire basketball club has received a funding boost thanks to players of a charity lottery.

West Wales Tropics Basketball Club was awarded £1013.03 by People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The Club will use the money to purchase new equipment to be able to introduce the sport to younger players than they’ve been able to in the past, and provide a new kit for an U16 team and a girls team.

The three month project will be aimed at boys and girls aged 11 to 16, giving them the chance to learn an exciting , dynamic sport, under the guidance of experienced coaches.

The Club’s Chairman, David Cumming said “This grant is tremendous for this Club.  A decent basketball costs almost £40 and boys under 15 and girls play with a smaller size ball than over 15 and adults.  With this grant we’ve been able to buy 12 size 6 balls with which to train the youngsters and start working on their skills weekly, plus a storage cage to keep them secure.  We’ve bought bibs to practice in and the kits will enable us to enter teams into the South Wales basketball competitions, and start finding games for our girls to play together as a team”.

People’s Postcode Lottery is Britain’s charity lottery.
